SUMMER 2009/2010 HAIRCOLOUR TRENDS
Summer runway looks for 09/10 are a mix of bold, bright colours, soft pastels and floral patterns. So as the temperature rises, it’s time to brighten and refresh your tresses to complement the latest catwalk trends.
Geometric prints and patterns from Versace’s SS/10 collection are the key to summer’s hottest hair trends, according master colourist Nastassja Fotiadis of DARIO COTRONEO SALON. It’s these unique fashion shapes that Fotiadis is channeling for hair colour design this season.
The latest looks use colour in triangle panels underneath the centre hairline and in sheets appllied throughout the hair to give a draped effect. For the full head, hair is divided and coloured in a circular motion around the mid line to create a multi-faceted colour spread.
A new colour palette for blondes and brunettes complements summer’s range of fashion shades. Blondes become lighter and earthy, with more neutral tones. Brunettes are softened with buttery golden highlights, soft apricot, strong copper and light golden brown tones.
Be inspired by the colours of summer and get your stylist to create you a new look with these hot new summer shades and techniques.
Natstassja Fotiadis’ tips to healthy summer locks:
- Always use professional products for coloured hair, as recommended by your stylist/colourist
- Use a deep conditioning treatment once a week
- Do not wash hair everyday. Try to shampoo only every second or third day. If your hair becomes oily, use a dry shampoo or sprinkle baby powder on the roots
- Take vitamins such as silica and fish oil to strengthen hair
- Maintain regular haircuts and salon treatments every six weeks.

So many people want to know what their face shape is. Unfortunately, face shapes are not easy to define as most people's faces don't fit exactly into any specific shape.
The easiest way of figuring out your face shape is to pull all your hair off your face, and sitting in front of a mirror, get someone else to draw an outline of your face with a whiteboard marker. You can then see a fairly good representation of your face shape.
The idea with finding flattering haircuts is to make your face appear Oval - so lengthen a shorter face, broaden or shorten a longer narrow face, balance an unbalanced face. In short, put the volume where you are narrowest. Shorten a longer face with a fringe/bangs. Lengthen a shorter face with height at the crown, length and no or a side swept fringe. The 'standard' face shapes are:

Do you have a fringe? Would you like to try a fringe but don’t know if it will suit you? Everybody has different hair and what works great for one person may not work at all for another. Adding a fringe is one of the best ways of changing your look fast without losing the length.
You may want to consider some of the following tips before jumping into a new haircut. Fringe Tip #1: Consider your hair texture - If you have straight hair, then you can almost choose whatever style of fringe you want. But, if you have curly hair, the fringe can turn into an unruly frizzy mess in humid weather. Be careful not to have your fringe cut too short either. Ask to have your fringe cut while your hair is dry and not wet, as curly hair “shrinks” when it’s dry and it can end up looking too short. Longer and layered fringe is usually the best option for those with curly hair. Fringe Tip #2: Look at your forehead - You should not get a fringe if you are prone to breakouts on your forehead. The extra styling can make the skin on your forehead even more irritated. Your hair will always be brushing against your forehead and you will be touching your fringe more, resulting in skin issues on your forehead. But if you have frown lines on your forehead you wish to soften then a fringe makes one of the best cover-ups. Fringe Tip #3: Consider duration of styling - There is extra styling involved when you have a fringe. At the very least dry your fringe even if you don't dry the rest of your hair. It might also require a little extra styling with a flat or curling iron to have them looking just right. If you are always in a hurry, then you will want to have your fringe cut long enough so that you can just pull it back with a scarf when you are running late. A fringe can make you look younger and sexier if you have it cut correctly. In a way its like an instant makeover. image curtesy of Reuters
